Al Kareem Sweets & Bakers East London is a neighbourhood bakery known primarily for its authentic South Asian breakfast offerings, nestled on Romford Road in E12. The experience here revolves around traditional morning meals rather than a full-service restaurant style dining. Weekends bring a lively but cozy bustle as locals and visitors gather to enjoy the famed Halwa Puri—a dish that draws a steady crowd and often means limited seating at peak hours.

The place is best suited for those who appreciate a classic Pakistani breakfast or crave the nostalgia of homemade sweets and spicy accompaniments. The menu centers on breakfast staples like Halwa Puri portions, Chana Masala, and refreshing drinks such as Kashmiri Chai and various styles of lassi, including sweet, salty, and mango. The accompanying sweets showcase a broad selection of traditional treats, from Coconut Gulaab Jamun to Almond Burfi, catering to those who want to round off a hearty morning with something sweet.

Visiting in the morning, especially on weekends, offers the most authentic atmosphere here. The vibe is friendly and informal, with staff who are attentive despite the steady rush. The space inside is modest, so expect a short wait for a table when it's busy, but takeaway options help manage the crowd. Conversations mostly revolve around food favorites and catching up on local life, reinforcing the place’s role as a community breakfast spot rather than a quiet café or formal dining experience.

Al Kareem fits the East London landscape well—it blends practical, affordable dining with the rich flavours of South Asian breakfast traditions. Those who appreciate a straightforward, unapologetic taste of home-style cooking will find coming here rewarding. It’s less about ambiance and more about reliability, flavour, and the subtle rhythms of weekend mornings in this part of the city.

Al Kareem Sweets, based in East London, is a must-visit spot if you’re craving a traditional Desi breakfast. Known for their weekend special – Halwa Puri – this place stands out in a sea of local options. With so many shops offering Halwa Puri in the area, it’s hard to find one that truly gets everything right. But Al Kareem Sweets delivers the full experience, and in my opinion, they’re the best around. Their Halwa Puri combo is nothing short of delicious. The puris are light, fluffy, and perfectly golden – not oily or soggy. The chana (spicy chickpeas) are cooked to perfection with just the right kick of flavour, and the suji halwa is smooth, rich, and not overly sweet – just how it should be. It’s the kind of breakfast that hits the spot and leaves you wanting more. What takes the meal to the next level is their sweet lassi. Thick, creamy, and served chilled, it’s the perfect companion to the spicy and savoury dishes. The lassi is mouth-watering and refreshing – easily one of the best I’ve had in East London. Despite being busy, especially on weekends, the service is efficient and the staff are friendly. The atmosphere is lively, and there’s a real sense of community among the regulars who clearly know this place is a gem. If you’re in the area or even just visiting, Al Kareem Sweets is worth trying at least once – though odds are, you’ll be coming back. Between the top-tier Halwa Puri and the unforgettable sweet lassi, this place offers a weekend breakfast experience you don’t want to miss.

This place is a must for breakfast on the weekend (not served on weekdays). Weekends are always busy but it is well staffed so you never have to wait for very long for your order. If you’re eating in, you may have to wait when it’s busy as there are only a small number of tables. Staff are friendly and the food is good value and hits the spot. I usually have a halwa puri half portion and a pink chai - all really good for a fiver. Recommended.

This is the very best halwa puri spot in london. I think it's better then Pakistan. We visited from USA even we can't find that kind of Halwa puri in USA, if you are halwa puri lover must visit Thai restaurant they serve all kind of Pakistani sweet and nimkos. I wish I could give 10 star to this spot. The uncle served puri at the table was very nice. Forget to tell about sweet lassi with Malai was super good too. Thank you.

Al Kareem Sweets & Bakers I’ve been visiting Al Kareem Sweets & Bakers for many years it’s a place that holds a lot of memories for me. Around 8–10 years ago, their standard was truly exceptional. They were easily among the best when it came to traditional items like Halwa Puri, Lassi, and Pink Tea absolutely unmatched at that time. Recently, I visited again, and while the food is still good and the prices remain very reasonable, I do feel that the overall standard has slightly declined compared to the old days. The quality is decent not top-tier but still enjoyable and the staff continue to be friendly and welcoming, which I really appreciate. It’s still a nice spot for traditional Pakistani sweets and breakfast, but I hope they bring back the same excellence and attention to detail that once made them stand out as one of the best in the area. Overall, I’d rate it above average good taste, fair prices, and kind people.

One of the best Halwa puri I had in London. It is worth the price, the puri, channa curry was delicious, filling and flavourful. We had mango lassi with Halwa puri, which was cherry on the top. The staff were polite and friendly. More seating would be helpful at busy times. We will be visiting again.

Tried Halwa Puree at Ilford and other places and this one is the best!!! No nonsense!! Just pure flavour and atmosphere!! Make sure you order the Kashmiri Chai with your halwa puree not water! It enhances the taste. Between 8am and 3pm Saturday / Sunday and they are non stop! The brother who serves you is always full of banter.
